On the morning of Thursday, October 5, several students from Dr. Anahit Khosroeva’s Genocides of the 20th Century course took a trip downtown to Michigan Avenue in order to support a project raising Genocide awareness. The participation stemmed from an invitation by guest speakers the class had
hosted the previous Tuesday.
The guest speakers, three Armenian-American men and women in their twenties, are part of a project called Journey for Humanity, whose focus on genocide education is being made a reality by walking across the United States, raising awareness, and meeting with elected officials. The group began in Los Angeles this past June, and they will end their journey in November in Washington, D.C. Their stay in Chicago was just one of the stops along the way.
The walk on Thursday morning began with a blessing from an Armenian priest and a recitation of the Lord’s Prayer in Armenian. The small group of students, accompanied by a reporter from local media, traveled down the sidewalks of Michigan Avenue in a solemn march distributing information about the project to passersby. For more information, visit the group’s website, www.journeyforhumanity.com.
