'Journey for Humanity’ and ‘Journey for Life’ Combine Their Efforts in Denver

The Journey for Humanity will continue through Denver, Colorado, on Monday August 21. The journey, a 3000 mile march from Los Angeles to Washington D.C., crosses through twelve states, and aims to raise awareness about the horrors of past and present genocides. The dedicated walkers of the Journey for Humanity have thus far walked through California, Nevada and Utah. They are currently in Colorado.

The Colorado Coalition for Genocide Awareness and Action (CCGAA) has organized the Journey for Life. For one week, starting August 21, Essie Garrett, 1996 Olympic Torch Bearer, will journey through cities in Colorado to educate Coloradans about this heinous crime against humanity, as well as, about immediate actions that need to be taken to stop the present day genocide in Darfur.

The Journey for Humanity will join the Journey for life, at 10 a.m., on the steps of the City and County Building of Denver for a press conference to welcome the L.A. group. After the ceremony, they will walk together through Front Range communities with stops in Boulder, Longmont (pending), Loveland, Fort Collins and Greeley. The Dead Weight of Complacency, a photographic exhibit about the genocides will be displayed outside the City and County Building of Denver, prior to the program.

Following the program, all attendees will walk to the site of the Armenian Memorial Plaque located on the grounds of the State Capitol.

The day will conclude with a reception hosted by the Armenians Of Colorado (AOC), to honor both the Journey for Humanity and the Journey for life. AOC would like to extend an invitation to Coloradan friends and the Armenian community. The reception will be held at the Platteforum 1610 Little Raven Street, Denver 80202 on Monday August 21st at 6PM.
