Sarkis attended Glendale Community College in 1999. There, he joined the student government, serving as a senator and then as the Vice President of Campus Relations. He was also elected as the President of the Armenian Student Association (ASA). While Sarkis served as the editor-in-chief of the monthly student newsletter, he decided to partake in the publication of the school newspaper. Putting his skills to work, he was instrumental in changing the layout design of the school newspaper. As a result, he won many award for the college at the Journalism Association of Community Colleges (JACC) competitions.
In 2001, thanks to his cousin Gevork Nazaryan, Sarkis discovered that the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) library had over 2,000 hours of testimonials of survivors of the Armenian genocide. As all of these testimonials were on tape, they were on the brink of deterioration, and needed to be preserved. Sarkis took on the challenge and had a facility set up where all the tapes were digitized.
Before transferring to the University of California, Irvine (UCI), Sarkis had joined ATHGO International, and worked as the Director of Electronic Media Development. Upon transferring, he pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and minored in Conflict Resolution. At UCI, Sarkis worked closely with his professor, Paula Garb and the Global Affairs department. He also worked as a research assistant at UCI's Center for Citizen Peacebuilding, where he concentrated on the conflict in Southern Caucasus. Combining his major and minor, he researched how economics can be the basis for conflict resolution. During his coursework at UCI, Sarkis managed to become a certified mediator in the court system of California through the offices of campus Ombudsmen.
Sarkis currently owns a technology and a consulting company in Studio City, California.
