J4H Fact Sheet
- Between the months of June and November 2006, a group of 12 to 15 concerned individuals will march across our nation, from Los Angeles, CA to Washington, D.C. to raise awareness around the critically relevant concern of ongoing genocide in our world.
- As Genocide survivors, the Armenians, carry the memory and live in the reality of consequences of Genocide. As Americans, we feel that it is our responsibility to inform our country about atrocious crimes against humanity, in an attempt to prevent future episodes.
- Beginning with the Herero Genocide of 1904-1907 to that in Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1992-1995, the 20th century was marked by a level of human cruelty the world had never seen. It is our aim to raise societal awareness because we believe that, with enough exposure, the American public will take a stance in defiance of genocide.
- The walkers will cross 12 states and hold rallies in 11 major U.S. cities to promulgate the mission of the Journey and advocate recognition of crimes against humanity.
- The entire budget for Journey for Humanity is about 500,000 USD; the finance committee of this project aims to collect this amount before and during the journey. The successful completion of the funding process will ensure the effectiveness of the project.
- We seek both in-kind and monetary donations. The support we ask of sponsors of perhaps the most vital part of the journeymen’s endurance: foodstuff and hygienic products. As the participants make their way across the harsh routes of our nation, they must maintain a healthy balance of struggle and strength.
- Dedicated individuals have contributed to Journey for Humanity. Aside from a spiritual satisfaction that volunteers gain by partaking in such event, they will also experience what it is like to be part of a project, the likes of which have not been attempted to be carried out before. At this time, volunteers are working tediously on constructing databases, conducting research, and contacting potential sponsors in search of their support; these are the areas most in need of development. However, any individual interested in partaking in Journey for Humanity can choose the position most desirable to them, as we have unlimited need for effort and support.
- Journey for Humanity encourages the community to request from their representatives the illumination of existing resolutions for some of the genocides mentioned above and the draft of new resolutions for all others. If Journey for Humanity is successful, the United States will see a positive growth of genocide awareness both in the media and politics.
- As a means to express our gratitude for the generosity of our sponsors, we will include them in printed literature, TV appearances, and rallies in major cities geared toward informing the public of Journey for Humanity. The logos of our general sponsors may also be imprinted on the RV where the walkers will reside for a period of five months through the journey across the United States. Inherently, providing publicity on an immense scale will be beneficial to all our sponsors; but this project will also allow our sponsors to inform the public of their support in the community and their concern for all of humanity.
